Brief Bio

Dr. Iris Canor is a lecturer at the Law School of the College of Management Academic Studies. She teaches European law and private international law. She also held visiting positions at the Max-Planck Institute of Public International Law, Heidelberg, and Columbia Law School. Dr. Canor received her LL.B. from the Tel-Aviv University Law School, a masters degree from the College of Europe Brugge Belgium and a Dr. Iur. from from Europa-Institut, University of Saarland, Germany (suma cum laude). Her research interests and publications cover issues relating to the relationship between European law and International law; limits of national sovereignty and international human rights. Her present research focuses on the indirect application of international norms into the Israeli legal system. Dr. Canor has published a book on The Limits of Judicial Discretion in the European Court of Justice, Security and Foreign Affairs Issues (Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, 1998) and written numerous articles in English, Hebrew and other languages

Brief Bio

Roberto Caranta is full professor of administrative law with the  Law Faculty of the University of Turin (Italy). He is Director of the  Master on Public Procurement for Sustainable Development jointly managed  by his University and ITC-ILO Turin. He is directing (with Steen  Treumer) the European Procurement Law Series, DJØF, Copenhagen. He is  member of both the research networks Public Contracts in Legal  Globalization / Contrats Publics dans la Globalisation Juridique and  PLAN - Procurement Law Academic Network. He is a member of the Dispute  settlement board of the European Space Agency -ESA.

With ITC-ILO he is involvement in formation activities on Green  Public Procurements (GPP). Pending accession of new EU Member States he  was member in a number of expert groups for EU-Phare Projects, including  Approximation of Legislation in the Czech Republic, and EU-Obnova  Project (in Croazia - Support to the Ministry of European Integration in  the process of the approximation of law). With ITC-ILO he was and is  involved in formation projects on public procurement rules involving  participants from many countries, and missions abroad (including Saudi  Arabia and Bangladesh).

Brief Bio

Rémy  Gerbay teaches international commercial law at Queen Mary  University in London. Prior to joining the School of Law at Queen Mary,  Rémy was the Deputy Registrar of the London Court of International  Arbitration (LCIA), between 2009 and 2012. Rémy was also acting  Registrar of the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre in Dubai.

Immediately prior to joining the LCIA, Rémy was in private  practice with English law firm Herbert Smith LLP, in London and Paris,  where he concentrated on commercial and investment arbitration (ICC,  LCIA, UNCITRAL and ICSID).

Rémy received a French law degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the  University of Lyon III, a two-year Master's in international law from  the Graduate Institute of International Studies (IUHEI, University of  Geneva), and an LL.M., Dean's List, from Georgetown University Law  Centre. For his work at Georgetown Law, Rémy was the recipient of the  Fulbright Scholarship. He was admitted to practice as an attorney (state  of New York) and as a Solicitor (England and Wales). Rémy has taught  international arbitration at SciencesPo (Paris) and Universite Jean  Moulin (Lyon), and regularly speaks at conferences.

Brief Bio 

Cally Jordan has degrees in both civil law and common law (LL.B/B.C.L. McGill University; D.E.A., Université de Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne)) which she obtained after a B.A., with distinction (Carleton) and a M.A. (University of Toronto).  She has practised in Canada, New York, California and Hong Kong and spent several years in the New York office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton working in the area of international finance.  She speaks fluent French.

Cally has spent over a decade  with the World Bank, both as a consultant and as a full-time advisor, on commercial law,  financial law, corporate governance, and corporate law  in a number of countries (Indonesia, Vietnam, Tunisia, China, Chile, Korea, Slovakia, Armenia, Macedonia, Lithuania, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Bahrain, Mauritius).

Between 1991 and 1996, she was an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law at McGill University and member of the Institute of Comparative and Private Law. Since 2007, she has been a faculty member at the University of Melbourne, Australia and is spending 2010 at Duke Law School in North Carolina. She has also  been an Associate Professor at the University of Florida, a visitor at the program on Comparative Law, Economics and Finance at the International University College of Torino, Italy,  as well as participating in programmes at Tulane Law School, Georgetown Law Center, and Osoode Hall Law School.

She is the author of proposals for the reform of Hong Kong companies law and spent nearly five years living in Asia.

In 2003, Cally was elected to the American Law Institute and is a member of the Australian Law Council. She also acts as a neutral arbitrator for the International Center for Dispute Resolution (AAA), New York City.

Heike Krieger holds the chair of Public Law and International Law at Freie Universität Berlin since 2006. Prior to her appointment in Berlin she taught at the Universities of Göttingen, Munich and Nottingham. In 2005 she was awarded the Helmuth-James-von-Moltke-Price for her work on the armed forces in constitutional states. She is member of the Research Council of the United Nations' Association of Germany and acts as Vice-President of the German Society for Military Law and Humanitarian Law. Apart from her academic activities she works as a judge at the Constitutional Court of the State of Berlin. Her advice has been sought by the German Parliament and Federal Ministries in the context of various lawmaking projects.

Current research activities include a project funded by the German Research Foundation on the enforcement of international humanitarian law in areas of limited statehood and a project on the implementation of international law in federal states.

Brief Bio 

VICTOR V. RAMRAJ is an Associate Professor and Vice-Dean (Academic Affairs) in the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore. He has qualifications in law (LL.B., Toronto; LL.M., Queen's University Belfast) and philosophy (B.A. Hons., McGill; M.A., Ph.D., Toronto) and was called to the bar of Ontario in 1995. Before joining the NUS law school, he served as a judicial law clerk at the Federal Court of Appeal in Ottawa and as a barrister in Toronto. His current areas of teaching and research are constitutional theory, comparative constitutional law, and emergency powers theory. His recent books include, as contributing editor, Emergencies and the Limits of Legality (Cambridge University Press, 2008) and, as contributing co-editor, Fundamental Principles of Criminal Law (LexisNexis, 2005). His scholarly work has also been published in edited volumes and leading law journals. He has held visiting appointments in the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, Kyushu University, and, in 2009-2010, at the Centre for Transnational Legal Studies in London, and has presented academic papers to audiences in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. He is currently co-editing a collection of essays, Emergency Powers in Asia, which will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2009.

Born in Barcelona en 1966. Law degree at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB)(1984-1989). M.Phil in International Relations at the University of Cambridge (1990-1991). Doctor in Law (Ph. D.) at the UB (2002). Since 1991, assistant lecturer of Public International Law  at the  UB and also at ESADE Law School since 1996. Worked at the law office of Juan Ignacio Torredemer, today also Honorary General Consul of Slovakia, from January 1992 to July 1993. Since then at ICC Spain (Spanish Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce), firstly as Technical Adviser (1993-2004), then Deputy Secretary General (2004-2009), and now as Director, while simultaneously lecturing at the UB and at ESADE Law School. Legal adviser of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra at its delegation in Vienna at the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) from January to April 2004). Visiting professor at the Universidad de Puerto Rico (January -March 2007) and Universidad Rafael Landívar (Guatemala, August 2007). Apart from Spanish, Catalan and English, speaks French, some German and has very basic knowledge of Norwegian (bôkmal).

Brief Bio

Walter Stoffel studied law at the University of Fribourg and Yale Law School. He wrote his dissertation on "Equal treatment Clauses of Foreigners and Nationals in Friendship Commerce and Navigation Treaties Concluded by Switerland". 1981 he took his bar exam and joined the law firm of Henrici, Weber und Wicki in Zurich.

In 1986 he completed his post-doctoral work at the University of Fribourg and received a professorship in the law faculty. Walter Stoffel has also taught at various other universities including the Université de Paris II, McGill University in Montreal, Deakin University in Melbourne and the University of Turin. From 1981 to 1987 Walter Stoffel served as vice-director of the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law in Lausanne and from 1994 to 2000 he was scientific director of the International Association of Legal Science.

Walter Stoffel is a member of the Competition Commission in the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs and has been president of the commission since 2003. He is also a member of the Swiss Society for International Law and works on the editorial board of the Swiss Business Law Bulletin.

Walter Stoffel has been a member of the Swiss Science and Technology Council since 2003. He was born on 12 December 1949. He is married and the father of three children.

Brief Bio

Professor Tague's principal areas of expertise are evidence, criminal procedure, criminal law, and professional responsibility. Since joining the Law Center faculty in 1976, he has also served as the Scholar in Residence of Kings College in London, as visiting professor at the Universities of New South Wales and Melbourne and at New York University Law School, twice as visiting professor for San Diego Law School's summer law programs in Oxford and in Dublin, and once for its program in Paris, twice at GULC's Summer Law Program in Florence, and eight times as director of GULC's summer program in London. He practiced law for over four years as a lawyer with the Public Defender's Office in Alameda County, California and for two years with the San Francisco firm of Howard and Prim, and clerked for J. Walter Mansfield, then of the District Court in the Southern District of New York. He is active in the American Bar Association, having served as chair of the Committee on Defense Counsel Competency and as vice-chair of the Committees on Professional Responsibility and on Rules of Criminal Procedure and Evidence. He has published a book about the practice of criminal law by barristers in England, and numerous articles in the areas of professional ethics, evidence, and criminal defense.
