Education Abroad Accident and Sickness Insurance and Team Assist Plan (TAP) Emergency Service Provider
All students participating in study abroad or other overseas opportunities arranged by Georgetown University are required to have overseas medical coverage and travel emergency assistance benefits. The University provides this coverage through the Georgetown University World Class Coverage Plan underwritten by ACE American Insurance Company.
Please note that this insurance is a mandatory part of participating in the program. The only exceptions are students who are citizens of the United Kingdom, and students from the University of Fribourg, the University of Torino and Free University of Berlin, whose schools provide CTLS with Certificates of Health Insurance Adequacy for their students. All other students are required to have the insurance, including students from schools in the European Union. Buying your own private insurance will not waive this requirement.
CTLS students will be automatically enrolled in this insurance and will be billed on their Georgetown student accounts. Fall 2016 semester students will be charged $110.00 for the semester (August through December 2016). Spring 2017 semester students will be charged $120.00 for the semester (January through May 2017). CTLS has created Georgetown student accounts for CTLS students from all participating schools. These accounts are accessed using the student's NetID. Payment to cover the charge must be made by August 5, 2016 for Fall semester students and by November 18, 2016 for Spring semester students, by one of the following methods:
- Complete the payment via your MyAccess.
- Georgetown Students Only: Pay in person at the Office of Student Accounts (581 McDonough Hall).
- To wire the funds to Georgetown Law, you need to contact the Student Accounts office at (202) 662-9057.
The plan also includes emergency medical assistance benefits through its Team Assist Plan (TAP). Services available through TAP include.
- Provider referral
- Emergency medical evacuation
- Travel and Technical Assistanc
For a complete list of services provided by TAP see Claims and Team Assist Plan Information linked above.
International SOS Travel Assistance
As mentioned above, Students enrolled in the study abroad insurance plan must rely on TAP for medical evacuation and other medical emergency services. Other travel services are provided by International SOS at no additional cost. Before students depart they should register on the ISOS website and read over the information provided at: http://www.internationalsos.com/MasterPortal/default.aspx?membnum=11BCPA000227
- Security Evacuation Services
- Online tracking of personal travel itineraries
- Online travel health reports

As always, students should be cautious and assume responsibility for their personal safety while traveling. While the United Kingdom benefits from generally low crime rates, incidents of pick pocketing are extremely common. For Georgetown students, more information on this subject is available at http://travel.state.gov/, each student is encouraged to register on the State Department's website at https://step.state.gov/step/.
